After successfully gathering momentum for the last two years, The Unity of Faiths launched its Foundation on Friday, September 27, 2013 having been merited Charitable Foundation status this year, to coincide with its annual Festival on Sunday, September 29, 2013. Once again the events took place in Southall, one of London’s most diverse communities, ideally placed to transmit this message of Unity within the Communities across London.
The focus of 2013 is on Youth as it is vital to connect with the younger generation – the ‘voices of tomorrow’– and sow the seeds of respect and mutual understanding for each other, early. In keeping with the theme of Youth and to mark the momentous occasion, TUFF’s Launch event on Friday, September 27, 2013, was ‘ignited’ at the onset with a historic Torch of Unity Ceremony; a procession led by students from different schools across West London, uniting together to carry the first Torch of Unity to light the inaugural Flame of Unity. Although this powerful image is born from within the community, the conscious flame of Unity is expected to go beyond, lighting up and uniting minds all around us.
TUFF’s Torch Ceremony fittingly leads to the Festival event, on Sunday, 29 September, 2013, which is expected to attract around 30,000 individuals. People will unite together against a backdrop of free entertainment, food, drink and social engagement.
As part of TUFF’s ‘Reach-Out’ programme and agendas, long term and sustainable initiatives are being considered with Schools and Universities to discuss the Unity of Faiths concept with plans to invite learned speakers to converse with and inspire our younger generation. TUFF will also hold a unique International Conference early next year, to be attended by international thought-leaders in the fields of empowerment, education, humanity and social cohesion, advocators of political and social dialogue for positive change such as Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India, who has confirmed his personal interest in TUFF, and personalities across entertainment, sport, popular culture and business. The purpose of the event is to provide a unique platform for ‘Dialogue’, to convey, share ideas and set actions for Unity in communities. Details of forthcoming programmes will be announced during the Festival weekend.
